Coast Lotus Lotus formosissimus
 
The flowers of coast lotus are unmistakable
      and beautifully showy, featuring a golden banner and two broadly
      arched wings that vary from pale to deep pink. Few other flowers
      are so striking for their bicolored pattern. Look for its decumbent
      stems and flower umbels in early summer. The compound leaves
      have up to seven leaflets. Coast lotus grows in wet ditches and
      swales in coastal grasslands. This plant occurs in scattered
      locations along our coast and well to the north and can be seen
      in some parts of Point Reyes National Seashore.
