Sickle-leaved Onion Allium falcifolium
More than forty five species of Onion are native to California, and at least ten species are in the Bay Area. Sickle-leafed onion is easy to reognise by the dark purple or white flowers close to the ground, and the flat leaves curved like a sickle. It grows in open rocky areas usually influenced by serpentine. Crater onion (A. cratericola) is a similar but a rare species in the Bay Area, with pale to rose-pink flowers and straight flat leaves.
